Self Balancing Scooter

Self Balancing Scooter

The two wheel smart electric self balancing scooter is great for anyone looking for a new way to get around! It was first introduced in June of 2015 and has been growing popularity ever since. Learning to use the board is just like learning to ride a bike, use roller blades or roller skates, a skateboard or skis and in a matter of a couple minutes, you will be zooming around and in control.

The maximum speed of the balance scooter is 6.2 mph and can travel up to 12.5 miles on a single charge. Both of these factors are limited to the weight of the rider and maximum capacity for the standard balance scooters is 220 lbs. New larger scooters can support up to 265 pounds, travel at 9.3 mph and travel up to 37 miles. The two wheels are rubber, filled with air and the scooter itself weighs about 22 lbs.

The scooter itself can go forwards, backwards, left and right and is controlled by the dynamic equilibrium of the rider. Many have LED lights equipped that light-up beneath your feet and are somewhat comparable to a cars headlights.

Smart balancing scooters are often referred to as hoverboards, electric balance boards and balance scooters.

Getting Started

It is important to wear safety equipment before using the balance scooter, this includes knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and a helmet. Just like on a bike or skateboard, there is a possibility that you might fall off the scooter.

When first getting on the scooter it is important to remember that the scooter is controlled by your equilibrium. Stand on the scooter flat footed and up-right. When you are ready to move forward or back, simply lean slightly in either direction. If you lean forward and apply more pressure on either foot, the scooter will be inclined to move forward and turn in that direction. After 3-5 minutes of moving slowly, you should become comfortable and start enjoying your time on the scooter.

Segway vs the Self Balancing Scooter

There are a number of differences between balance scooters and a Segway, one of the biggest differences between them being the price. A Segway could run you anywhere between $6,000 and $8,000 where a balance scooter can range anywhere between $400 and $700. Segway’s are a bit faster (about 2mph) however it wouldn’t be any surprise if higher performance balance scooters are released surpassing the top speed of the Segway. A Segway also has bigger wheels and a handle bar but yet again, we are also seeing bigger wheels implemented and handle bars on select models of the balancing scooters. The differences are slight and probably not worth paying an additional $5,000 for a Segway.

Purchasing

The best balance scooter to get in our opinion is the newer model that supports more weight, travels faster, has bigger wheels and uses a Bluetooth remote. This however should probably be an investment for someone who is serious about using the scooter frequently. If you only want to use the scooter for recreation the original self balancing hover board will more than sufficient.

The hover-boards can be purchased directly from our store, we have the scooters for sale in numerous color options and sets of features to match your needs. We welcome you to email us or call (608) 831-3480 should you have any questions about placing your order.

Conclusion

The self balance scooter is a great alternative to regular modes of transport. It can be expected that in the coming years, youths will use balance scooters to get to school and everyday people will be riding them to get to work. It is a fast, efficient and safe method of transport for anyone with the proper safety equipment and experience and it is likely that if you haven’t seen them already, you will see them popping up in your community soon.
