The following guide is meant to give you a step by step instruction on how to replace a battery for your iPhone 5C that is no longer holding a charge. Please be sure to take care during every step of this procedure as parts and flex cables can be easily damaged or broken. As well, you must be sure to keep track of where each screw is removed from so that when it comes time to re-install them you know exactly where to put them. When removing or lifting flex cables, it is suggest to use plastic spudgers or plastic opening and lifting tools. Before continuing it is advised to read the disclaimer at the bottom of this article.
We suggest the following parts and tools for this repair:
Remove the 3.6mm Pentalobe or Phillips #000 screws located at the bottom of the phone near the dock connector. Note: The 5-point Pentalobe Screwdriver should only be used once as it has the potential to strip the screws.
Secure a suction cup to the front LCD Assembly and gently pull on the assembly while using a pry tool along the bottom and sides to lift the assembly away from the body of the phone.
Remove the 4 Phillips head screws near the top right of the battery which secure the metal assembly cable bracket to the phone.
Remove the assembly cable bracket.
Carefully disconnect the Front-Facing Camera flex cable, LCD Flex Cable and Digitizer Flex Cable from the logic board and set the screen assembly aside.
Remove the two screws securing the metal bracket that is covering the battery flex cable at the bottom right hand side of the battery.
Carefully disconnect the battery flex cable.
Run the tip of a spudger between the battery and headphone jack to unfold the adhesive tape located at the bottom of the battery. Pull the battery adhesive away from the battery. Cut the tape in half and gently tug on each piece of tape until they are completely removed from the phone.
Remove the battery from the phone.
Proceed to install your new battery and follow these instructions in reverse order to re-assemble your phone.
