How To Replace an iPhone 5 Battery

iPhone 5 Battery Replacement

The following guide is meant to give you a step by step instruction on how to replace a battery for your iPhone 5 that is no longer holding a charge. Please be sure to take care during every step of this procedure as parts and flex cables can be easily damaged or broken. As well, you must be sure to keep track of where each screw is removed from so that when it comes time to re-install them you know exactly where to put them. When removing or lifting flex cables, it is suggest to use plastic spudgers or plastic opening and lifting tools. Before continuing it is advised to read the disclaimer at the bottom of this article.

We suggest the following parts and tools for this repair:

Step by Step iPhone 5 Battery Replacement

  1. Power off your iPhone.
  2. Remove the 3.6mm Pentalobe or Phillips #000 screws located at the bottom of the phone near the dock connector. Note: The 5-point Pentalobe Screwdriver should only be used once as it has the potential to strip the screws.
  3. Secure a suction cup to the front LCD Assembly and gently pull on the assembly while using a pry tool along the bottom and sides to lift the assembly away from the body of the phone.
  4. Remove the 3 Phillips head screws near the top right of the battery to the metal assembly cable bracket from the phone.
  5. Carefully disconnect the Front-Facing Camera flex cable, LCD Flex Cable and Digitizer Flex Cable from the logic board.
  6. Remove the LCD Assembly from the iPhone.
  7. Remove the two screws securing the battery flex cable to the logic board.
  8. Disconnect the battery flex cable from the logic board.
  9. Use the plastic pull-tab to remove the battery or use the plastic opening tool to gently lift the battery out of the iPhone.
  10. Install your new battery and proceed to re-assemble your iPhone using the above instructions in the reverse order.
