How To Replace an iPhone 3GS Battery

iPhone 3GS Battery Replacement

The following guide is meant to give you a step by step instruction on how to a battery for your iPhone 3GS that is no longer holding a charge. Please be sure to take care during every step of this procedure as parts and flex cables can be easily damaged or broken. As well, you must be sure to keep track of where each screw is removed from so that when it comes time to re-install them you know exactly where to put them. When removing or lifting flex cables, it is suggest to use plastic spudgers or plastic opening and lifting tools. Before continuing it is advised to read the disclaimer at the bottom of this article.

We suggest the following parts and tools for this repair:

Step by Step iPhone 3GS Battery Replacement

  1. Power off your iPhone.
  2. Remove the Phillips #000 screws located at the bottom of the phone near the dock connector.
  3. Secure a suction cup to the front LCD Assembly and gently pull on the assembly while using a pry tool along the bottom and sides and begin to lift the assembly away from the body of the phone.
  4. Hold the display assembly at an angle and disconnect the flex cables labeled 1, 2, and 3.
  5. Remove the display assembly from the iPhone.
  6. Eject the SIM Card Tray by using a SIM Card Eject tool or paper clip.
  7. Carefully disconnect the flex cables labeled 4, 5, and 6.
  8. Remove 8 screws, three down the middle-left hand side and 5 down the right hand side.
  9. Use a spudger to remove the camera (near the SIM card).
  10. Use a spudger to carefully remove the logic board.
  11. Carefully remove the battery from the iPhone, it is secured with a light adhesive.
  12. Install your new battery and follow the above instructions in reverse order to complete the installation of your battery.
